guidelines for support applications
If you are organizing a paleoscience workshop or summer school and would like to apply for support, please follow the instructions below. Please note: We cannot process applications by individuals wishing to attend meetings.
PAGES requirements
To obtain support, organizers must be able to demonstrate that the themes and objectives of their workshop or summer school meet PAGES goals. In addition, PAGES requires a post-event product, for example a workshop report, a special issue of a peer-reviewed publication, or an article for inclusion in the PAGES newsletter.
PAGES tends not to support sessions at large conferences unless the session is used to initiate or aid in the development of a PAGES product, such as a special journal issue. The idea is that PAGES funds workshops to bring people together to work on some new scientific linkages or ideas, and to develop them synergistically, not to present results that they have independently obtained (as one might at a session at a large conference).
Funds transfer
There are two possibilities for transfer of the allocated funds:
1. Funds are sent to the workshop organizer before the event, for distribution to the chosen participants (PAGES preferred).
2. PAGES pays the chosen participants directly, usually after the event.
Proposal
If you have read all of the above information and are interested in applying for workshop support, please complete the form provided under this link.
The next deadline for submission is 16 November 2008. Generally, workshops or summer schools taking place within one year of the submission deadline will be considered. Submitted proposals will be discussed and decided upon by members of the PAGES SSC.
It may be advantageous to contact the PAGES IPO in advance of submitting a proposal and involve us in the planning process. This can help improve chances of obtaining financial support by ensuring that the meeting fits in well with established PAGES programs and meets PAGES goals.
Please note: It is the responsibility of organizers to generate most of the funding necessary for the meeting.
