Guidelines for authors of PAGES news science highlight articles

Article Text

- Articles should be written for an interdisciplinary, international audience.
- Maximum of 1,200 words for the body of the article.
- A one-sentence abstract highlighting the key finding of the article.
- Use U.S. English spelling.
- Format authors and affiliations, as well as an email address for the corresponding author, as shown in the following example (do not include street addresses or postal codes):

  C. Schmidt1, T. Brown2 and L. Smith3

1Department of Geology, University of Bern, Switzerland; schmidt@geol.unibe.ch
2Institute of Chemistry, Australian National University, Canberra, Australia

- Explain obscure terms, and spell out acronyms and abbreviations.
- Ages and dates should use the units ka or Ma, where appropriate.
- Keep acknowledgements as short as possible.
- Text, references and figure captions (but NOT figures) should be submitted in one Microsoft Word file.

References

- All data that appear in PAGES news should be submitted to an international database. Please supply the database name and URL so that these can be listed at the end of the article.
- Only 5 references will be printed beneath the article. All other cited references will be listed online on an “additional references” page. Please indicate which 5 references are to be printed.
- All references in the article should be cited with names and dates, rather than being numbered, e.g., (Schmidt et al., 2005).
- Do not use Endnote links or other referencing programs.
- References should be formatted as in the following examples, using “et al.” only when there are more than 10 authors, or for book editors:

  For journal articles–

Schmidt, C., Brown, T. and Smith, L., 2007: Use of paleoscience data, Science, 5(25): 35-38.
