Overview

NW Pacific Ocean Field Trip, 2001.

The goal of the Ocean2k Working Group is to place marine climate changes of the past century within the context of the previous two millennia.

We have a distributed leadership, designed to encourage transparency, inclusion, respect, communication, constructive debate and consensus-guided decision-making.

Our Phase 1 activities included compilation and synthesis of publicly available, peer-reviewed paleoclimate data, analysis of climate simulations, interpretation of climate processes, and uncertainty analysis.

Phase 2 of the Ocean2k project will begin in early 2015.

Phase 2 of the PAGES/Ocean2k project

We would like to announce the beginning of phase 2 of the Ocean2k project. Phase 1 started in 2011 and is just concluding; Phase 2 is an opportunity to both build on past efforts and to develop new initiatives.

1. Ocean2k past
===============

If you are unfamiliar with the Ocean2k project, please see the recently updated Ocean2k webpages which include an overview of the project, and links to paleoclimate data and simulation metadatabases.

Join the Ocean2k listserv to stay informed as we reorganize and plan for phase 2:

2. Ocean2k present
==================

Results from phase 1 include: one paper published in Paleoceanography. The group also has a number of other manuscripts in revision and preparation, including a trans-regional synthesis manuscript.  Links to open-access versions of accepted manuscripts are at the Ocean2k webpages.

3. Ocean2k future
=================

The first Ocean2k workshop has just been funded by PAGES-IPO, and is planned for October 6-8, 2015.

Details and a call for participation will be forthcoming, but we envision a small meeting of representatives from groups self-organized to develop new initiatives that will define phase 2 of Ocean2k. Participants will be selected on the basis of plans to make use of the workshop to identify and advance emerging phase 2 projects.

Please join us and bring your expertise to the development of phase 2 research goals.
