NERC (Natural Environment Research Council)
NERC funds world-class science in universities and their own research centres that increases knowledge and understanding of the natural world. NERC are tackling the 21st century's major environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity and natural hazards and lead in providing independent research and training in the environmental sciences.
ROYAL SOCIETY
The Royal Society is the independent scientific academy of the UK and the Commonwealth dedicated to promoting excellence in science. The Society plays an influential role in national and international science policy and supports developments in science engineering and technology in a wide range of ways.
THE BRITISH COUNCIL
The British Council science programme supports scientific collaboration through the exchange of ideas and knowledge. They aim to build lasting relationships and networks between young scientists around the world.
THE LEVERHULME TRUST
The Trust, established at the wish of William Hesketh Lever, the first Viscount Leverhulme, makes awards for the support of research and education. The Trust emphasises individuals and encompasses all subject areas.
THE DARWIN INITIATIVE
The Darwin Initiative is a small grants programme that aims to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of resources around the world. The Initiative is funded and administered by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, (Defra).
