Paleoenvironmental research centers include the Universities of Bern, Fribourg, Neuchâtel, Lausanne, Genève, Basel and Zürich.

There is a concentration of climate and research related agencies located in Bern. In addition to the University and the Swiss NSF, the National Competence Center for Climate Research (NCCR-Climate), the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI) and ProClim the forum for climate and global change of the Swiss Academy of Sciences also share links with PAGES. ProClim advises the federal ministries, organises meetings, and interfaces between the Swiss science community and international assessment activities, and between the IGBP, IHDP and WCRP.
