isotopes

Department of Radioisotopes, Institute of Physics, Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, provides a wide range of collaborative research in the fields of dating techniques, geochronology, isotopic bio- and geochemistry, radioisotopic investigations and statistical data analysis and modelling. We collaborate mainly with geologists, environmental scientists, climate scientists and archaeologists.

Our activities are focused on applications of radiocarbon dating, light stable isotopes, optically stimulated luminescence (OSL), thermoluminescence, Pb210 dating and fallout Cs137 distribution in soils. We not only hold more than 35 years of experience in radiometric radiocarbon dating, our laboratory, as the only one in Poland, provides radiocarbon dating using all modern techniques including AMS targets preparation and collaborative AMS measurements in other AMS laboratories.

We host a state-of-the-art TL/OSL dating laboratory, which dates a wide range of samples from various sedimentological and archaeological contexts. Our analyses have given us the possibility to take part in solving many interdisciplinary palaeoclimatic and environmental problems. More information about our scientific and educational activities may be found on our web site http://www.carbon14.pl/.
