PAGES Germany

Welcome to PAGES Germany

Paleoclimate research in Germany has traditionally been funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) and the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (Federal Ministry of Education and Research). In addition to the funding of individual projects, interdisciplinary paleoclimate studies have been pooled into large national research programs since the 1990’s. The latest of these programs are KIHZ and DEKLIM, to be followed by the upcoming Priority Program INTERDYNAMIK (Integrated Analyses of Interglacial Climate Dynamics), which will commence in 2007.
In Germany, paleoclimate research is hosted by many universities, facilities of the research center associations of Helmholtz, Max Planck and Leibniz and the Academies of Sciences. The diversity of working groups involved means that German paleoclimate research activities cover the entire spectrum of archives, with information from marine and terrestrial sediments, corals and speleothems, tree rings and ice, as well as modeling of past climate.
