PAGES Finland
Welcome to PAGES Finland
Climate variability during glacial-interglacial cycles as well as during the Holocene are the main PAGES-related areas within Finnish Quaternary research.
Paleoenvironmental research has been traditionally conducted in the Geology departments of the Universities of Helsinki, Turku and Oulu, which all have professor positions in Quaternary Geology. In addition, research is also carried out in the Biology and Geography departments of those universities. Paleoecological studies are also being conducted at the University of Joensuu. The Geological Survey of Finland (GSF), which has offices in Espoo, Kuopio and Rovaniemi, is one of the principal institutes in Quaternary research.
The paleoenvironmental research community in Finland collaborates internally through EU’s research programs and through European Science Foundation programs such as QUEEN (Quaternary Environment of the Eurasian North) and HOLIVAR (Holocene Climate Variability).
