The Bozi Dar peat bogs, located at the Czech-German border in the Krusne Hory Mts., represent highmoor bogs with a continuous development from the Late Glacial up to the present. A paleoenvironmental record was obtained from two sections up to 3.5 m high by Eva Brizova, a palynologist from the Czech Geological Survey. The peat bog started to develop in the Late Glacial (the lowermost inorganic sand-dominated sediment contained no pollen). At the Pleistocene/Holocene transition (boundary of vegetative phases III and IV see pollen diagram), laminated mud-dominated sediments were replaced by fen and peat-bog deposits, which form the remaining part of the section. The vegetational sequence pattern derived from the preserved pollen is as follows: pine (Pinus) - alternatively birch (Betula) - hazel (Corylus) - mixed woodland (QM) - (Picea) - beech (Fagus) - fir (Abies).
Radiocarbon dating was carried out at the Gliwice Radiocarbon Laboratory in Poland and at the 14C und 3H - Laboratorium in Hannover (Germany).
