about PAGES

mission statement

Past Global Changes (PAGES) supports all paleoenvironmental and paleoclimate research efforts directed at securing a quantitative understanding of natural and human-induced variations of the Earth system in the past, in order to make sound predictions of future climate, environment and sustainability. PAGES seeks to facilitate interdisciplinary and international cooperation in research and to involve scientists from developing countries in the worldwide paleo-community.

PAGES' OBJECTIVES

PAGES' main areas of focus include integrating international paleoresearch, encouraging research partnerships, strengthening the involvement of scientists from developing countries, supporting educational programs, engaging with the climate modeling community, and facilitating public access to paleo-data.

Several research activities, comprised of groups of scientists with common interests, are incorporated within PAGES. Our programs and workshops are designed to bring together researchers from a variety of disciplines and countries. We also provide a forum for scientists to discuss and interpret ice, ocean, and terrestrial paleoclimate records and modeling results, and foster the development of internationally accessible data archives.
