IGBP elements

PAGES is a core project of IGBP (International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme).

IGBP is in its second decade of research, continuing to focus on global biogeochemistry. The figure above shows the new IGBP Phase 2 structure, which was officially launched in 2003. For information about the IGBP Phase 1 structure click here. In order to meet the challenges of a more integrated Earth System science, IGBP's new structure consists of eight projects. Three projects are centred on major Earth System compartments (ocean, land and atmosphere) and three projects on the interfaces between them (land-atmosphere, atmosphere-ocean and land-ocean). Two projects, one of which is PAGES, focus on the whole system.
